No Compromise on Axle Load Regime, Heavy Fines for Violators: Aleem Khan

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Aug, 2026)

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan on Friday stated that there would be no compromise on enforcing the Axle Load Control Regime (ALCR), announcing severe fines for vehicles and factories involved in overloading.

Meeting to Review Axle Load Regime Implementation

Khan chaired a high-level meeting to review the implementation of the axle load regime, instructing relevant authorities to strengthen monitoring through:

  • Artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Modern cameras
  • An automated weigh-station system

Attended by Federal Secretary for Communications, Chairman National Highway Authority (NHA), Inspector General Motorway Police, and Director Generals of National Logistics Corporation (NLC) and Frontier Works Organization (FWO), the meeting discussed:

  • The detrimental impact of overloading on road infrastructure.
  • A state-of-the-art model weigh station in Sangjani, set to be completed soon.

Directives for Strict Enforcement

The minister issued clear directives, demanding:

  • Amendments to NHA's legal framework within a week to remove obstacles regarding the axle load regime.
  • Guidance for vehicle body manufacturers and advice against installing heavy decorative accessories.
  • Imposition of fines on both vehicle owners and factories found overloading trucks.
  • Complete automation of weigh stations and establishment of similar facilities on GT Roads, alongside modern cameras using AI for immediate tracking of rule-breaking vehicles.

Long-Term Planning for Karachi Port

Khan instructed the NHA, NLC, and FWO to adopt a joint strategy at Karachi Port, focusing on 20-year needs rather than current conditions. He also announced plans to personally visit ten locations across motorways to inspect the practical implementation of the regime firsthand, ensuring strict adherence to rules and regulations.
