Kyla’s "Do You Mind" Resurges on TikTok as UK’s Song of the Summer

British singer Kyla’s 2008 track "Do You Mind" has been crowned TikTok’s UK song of the summer, with nearly 650,000 videos posted in the UK over the summer featuring the song.
The noughties garage track initially gained popularity upon its release, but achieved global recognition in 2016 when Canadian rapper Drake sampled it on his chart-topping single "One Dance."
Now, "Do You Mind" is experiencing a new wave of popularity on TikTok, generating over 500 million views, according to the platform. Kyla describes the recognition as both surreal and incredible, particularly as it validates her artistry after years of association with Drake.
Jorja Smith joined Kyla on stage at All Points East festival in London to perform the track together, creating an incredible experience for Kyla, who described hearing 40,000 people sing along as a moment she almost wanted to cry from.
The song’s lyrics, particularly "baby" and "honey," have inspired TikTokkers to use dolls and honey as props in their videos. The resurgence of UK garage music, with artists like Sammy Virji, AJ Tracey, and Disclosure incorporating the genre into their work, further fuels the track’s popularity.
Other notable UK summer hits on TikTok include "On 2nite" by Silva Bumpa and "Free Your Mind" by Prospa and Cloonee. Kyla attributes the revival to a collection of songs that have been beloved by audiences over time, regardless of trends.
Additionally, Oasis’ 1995 classic "Wonderwall" has secured the title of TikTok’s second biggest UK song of the summer, driven by its use as the unofficial soundtrack to England’s World Cup journey.
