PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Sep, 2026) A mass tree plantation drive has been launched across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Defence Day with one million saplings having been planted in a bid to combat climate change.
The campaign was officially inaugurated in Palandra and Tir Dobandi areas of Tehsil Dargai, Malakand district, where Advisor to the KP Chief Minister on Forests, Pir Musawar Khan Ghazi, attended as the chief guest and personally planted an olive sapling.
Speaking at the gathering, he highlighted government's sustained environmental efforts, and said that 1.4 million saplings had previously been planted on Pakistan Day (23 March) and a further 1.7 million on Independence Day (14 August). Within Tehsil Dargai alone, 22,255 saplings were distributed and planted with active community involvement.
Beyond rural drives, rapid progress has also been made on the establishment of 20 Miyawaki urban forests in Peshawar to enhance green cover.
Appealing to public for their continued participation in these ecological drives, the Advisor said that provincial government's green initiatives were essential for mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change, improving environmental health, and securing a sustainable, eco-friendly future for generations.
