WASHINGTON, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM – 19th Aug, 2026) US company OpenAI has announced the launch of a specialised version of its popular app—dubbed "ChatGPT for Teens"—amid growing concerns among researchers and parents regarding teenagers’ emotional reliance on chatbots.

"We’re introducing ChatGPT for Teens," the company stated, "an experience designed to help teens learn, think critically, deepen understanding, and use AI with confidence. It provides stronger built-in safety protections for teens…"

These include:

  • Automated age restriction: If OpenAI estimates a user is under 18 or states their age is between 13 and 17, they are automatically directed to ChatGPT for Teens.
  • Study Mode: A feature that offers guiding questions and step-by-step support to help teens understand material.
  • Responsible Homework Reminders: Identifies when a teen appears to be trying to shortcut an assignment and redirects them to Study Mode.
  • Quizzes and Learning Visualizations: Enhances practice, testing, and understanding of concepts.
  • Study Hours: Allows parents to choose times when Study Mode is activated by default, encouraging consistent study habits.
