ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Oct, 2026)
Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry stated that Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai is obstructing constitutional appointments, including that of the Chief Election Commissioner, while the prime minister has contacted him twice but was refused a meeting.
Speaking at Parliament House, Dr Chaudhry stated that the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and members of the Election Commission is a constitutional matter. However, he claimed, Opposition Leader Achakzai is creating obstacles in the process.
He said the prime minister had reached out to him twice, but Achakzai refused to meet. The opposition leader is not adhering to his constitutional duties, and he is also demanding a meeting with Imran Khan over this issue, he added.
"In Pakistan, the authority to make appointments to constitutional offices cannot rest with a convicted person,” the minister declared.
Dr Chaudhry, the federal minister for parliamentary affairs, also addressed the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is openly announcing his refusal to cooperate with the federation. He claimed that Afridi's conduct is setting the stage for an emergency in the province.
He noted that the chief minister possesses constitutional powers, but if he doesn't change his behavior, he will be held accountable for the consequences.
The minister made it clear that no march on Islamabad will be permitted under any circumstances. He stated that the provincial government has lost administrative control over 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and that the chief minister has been informed about national security matters.
Dr Chaudhry argued that the provincial government should take action to eliminate terrorism on its own. He emphasized that while the federal government is taking measures for Imran Khan's health and well-being, the provincial government refuses to cooperate.
He concluded by mentioning the government's efforts to ensure the best possible care for Imran Khan.
