Over 15,000 Free Cardiac Surgeries Completed Under CM’s Children Heart Surgery Programme
Since the launch of the Chief Minister's Children Heart Surgery Programme in September 2024, more than 15,000 free cardiac surgeries for children from Punjab and other parts of the country have been successfully completed.
The Hospital Management Information System (HMIS), developed by the Punjab Information Technology board (PITB), provided essential digital support to the programme. This was highlighted during a meeting presided over by PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf at Arfa Software Technology Park (ASTP) on Tuesday.
The meeting informed that HMIS facilitates:
- Management of patients' medical records
- Preparation of patient lists
- Electronic referrals to private hospitals
- Timely coordination between public and private hospitals involved in the programme.
Through HMIS, participating hospitals across Punjab have been provided with quick and convenient access to patients’ records, enabling doctors to make better-informed clinical decisions and hospital administrations to improve management and coordination. The digital system has also helped streamline the referral and treatment process, making it more organized, transparent, and integrated.
Faisal Yousaf, PITB Chairman, stated:
"The completion of more than 15,000 free cardiac surgeries is a significant milestone under the programme. HMIS has played a significant role in making the treatment process faster, more organised, and better coordinated through digital records, electronic referrals, and effective communication among hospitals."
He further emphasized that PITB would continue to support the adoption of digital technology in the healthcare sector to ensure timely and quality medical services for citizens.
