Over Rs445.99m Budget 2026-27 Approved For Agriculture University DI Khan

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Sep, 2026) The Senate of the Agriculture University Dera Ismail Khan on Thursday approved a budget of over Rs445.99 million for the financial year 2026-27, with emphasis on strengthening academic programmes, research activities, and institutional infrastructure.

This budget was approved at the seventh Senate meeting of the university, chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Agriculture Adviser and Pro-Chancellor Mian Muhammad Umar, according to a press release issued here. KP Secretary Agriculture Dr Muhammad Bakhtiar Khan, Vice Chancellor Agriculture University DI Khan Dr Muhammad Latif Gondal, and other members of the Senate attended the meeting.

The Senate reviewed the university’s financial, administrative, academic, and research affairs and considered measures to improve its overall performance. It also examined expenditure during 2025-26, income and expenditure statements, available resources, utilisation of funds, and financial discipline.

The meeting stressed that available resources should be utilised transparently and prudently in line with the university’s academic, research, and administrative priorities.

Speaking at the meeting, Mian Muhammad Umar directed the university to orient its research towards local agricultural needs, climatic conditions, and challenges confronting farmers in Dera Ismail Khan and other southern districts. He stated that sustainable growth of the agriculture sector required modern, practical, and result-oriented research, the benefits of which could directly reach farmers.

He called for increased research on:

  • Crop productivity
  • Efficient water management
  • Modern irrigation techniques
  • Agricultural technology
  • Improved seed varieties

The adviser emphasised that university research should not remain confined to academic institutions and laboratories but its findings should be transferred effectively to the field for practical benefit of farmers. He noted the vital role of universities in agricultural research, adoption of modern technologies, and development of skilled human resources.

Mian Muhammad Umar added that the Agriculture University DI Khan should align its research programmes with the needs of farmers and the agricultural economy of the region.

He also called for enhanced coordination between the Agriculture University and the Agriculture Department to ensure that research findings were translated into practical agricultural interventions.

The adviser directed the university administration to give priority to improving academic and research standards, student facilities, and institutional infrastructure while ensuring effective and judicious use of financial resources.

Senate members also put forward their proposals for institutional development, promotion of quality education, expansion of research activities, and improvement of financial management.
