Pakistan Begins Developing Measles-Rubella Elimination Roadmap With Global Health Partners
Pakistan is embarking on a journey to eliminate measles and rubella, with the Federal Directorate of Immunization (FDI) leading the charge in collaboration with renowned international health partners.
The Federal Directorate of Immunization (FDI), in collaboration with: the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Gates Foundation, is crafting a detailed roadmap to strengthen Pakistan's immunization efforts.
Dr. Musa Khan, Director General FDI, chaired a pivotal meeting with representatives from the aforementioned organizations to discuss the development of an Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) strategy. The meeting aimed to establish a structured process, encompassing evidence review, stakeholder consultations, and national approval, to create a comprehensive roadmap.
Dr. Khan emphasized the need for a coordinated, phased approach involving federal and provincial EPI programs and technical partners to ensure a robust strategy for measles and rubella elimination.
The participants highlighted the significance of technical collaboration and stakeholder engagement in aligning the strategy with national immunization priorities and public health objectives. This initiative underscores the government's commitment, alongside its international partners, to strengthening routine immunization and safeguarding children against vaccine-preventable diseases.
