Pakistan Calls Reuters Report on Warning Iran Baseless

Pakistan will decide on trade agreements with Iran based on its national interest, while no discussion is currently underway on expanding the Makkah Agreement, as stated by a Foreign Office spokesperson.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 10th Sep, 2026) The Foreign Office spokesperson clarified that Pakistan is not considering a military response under the Makkah Defence Agreement in response to Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, adding that time is needed to implement the defence pact.
Last month, Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia signed a trilateral defence agreement, stating that an armed attack on any one country would be considered an attack on all.
Sajjad Haider Khan, Foreign Office spokesperson, confirmed that bilateral defence cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is continuing, and Pakistan will maintain its support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
During a weekly press briefing, Khan stated that the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement is still in force, and Pakistan will fulfill its role according to the agreement’s provisions. He added that there are no discussions with any party regarding any proposals or matters of this nature.
He explained that both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have a bilateral defence agreement and are parties to the trilateral agreement.
According to the spokesperson, the Makkah Agreement is purely defensive and aims to ensure regional security through deterrence.
Khan stated that Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia are holding regular meetings and consultations at various levels under the agreement. The three countries maintain continuous communication.
He further said that Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia first need to strengthen their organization and cooperation. Discussions on expanding the Makkah Agreement will take place after the agreement’s basic points are finalized.
The Foreign Office spokesperson emphasized that Pakistan will decide on trade agreements with Iran in its national interest and that reports of Pakistan warning Iran are baseless.
