Pakistan-China cooperation holds huge potential in AI: Chinese Consul General

Consul General of China in Lahore, Sun Yan, has emphasized that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not just a technological advancement but a transformative force with profound implications for education, industry, and humanity's future.
Speaking at the launch of Pakistan's first AI tutor, MAYA AI, developed by the University of South Asia (USA), Mr. Yan highlighted China's belief that AI development should be people-centered, safe, inclusive, and beneficial to all nations.
He noted that Pakistan and China have significant potential to strengthen their partnership in artificial intelligence, particularly in education, agriculture, healthcare, and innovation. He encouraged young Pakistanis to embrace AI, foster innovation, and contribute to building a brighter future for both countries.
"I encourage the talented youth of Pakistan to embrace AI, promote innovation, and contribute towards building a brighter shared future for both our countries," said Mr. Yan.
Higher Education and AI
Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, who attended the ceremony as the chief guest, stated that AI is rapidly transforming the world, and Pakistan's universities must prepare students to be active participants in this technological revolution.
He outlined the HEC's commitment to integrating AI into academic curricula and equipping students and faculty with the skills needed for the future. Dr. Akhtar stressed the need for universities to move beyond conventional teaching methods and focus on research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and practical applications of emerging technologies.
"I am pleased to see institutions such as the University of South Asia taking a forward-looking approach towards technology-driven education and preparing young people for the evolving global economy," he added.
Supporting Pakistan's Education System
Chairman of the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), Dr. Iqrar Ahmad, expressed PHEC's commitment to promoting innovation, research, and modern skills to align higher education with the evolving needs of the economy and industry.
He highlighted the potential of the launched MAYA AI tutor as a supportive tool for Punjab's education system. Dr. Ahmad congratulated the University of South Asia for organizing the initiative and fostering a dialogue on the future of AI.
The University of South Asia has introduced five integrated AI models under MAYA AI Tutor, including:
- Voice 7 AI: For voice-based interactions
- Persona AI: For personalized learning experiences
- Pixel AI: For image recognition and processing
- Motion AI: For motion capture and analysis
- Adam AI: A general-purpose AI model
These AI models are designed to support students and provide AI-powered solutions for various sectors in the local market.
