Pakistan's Cooking Competitor Showcases Country’s Flavors at WorldSkills Shanghai

SHANGHAI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Sep, 2026) At the 48th WorldSkills Competition, the world's largest and most influential vocational skills competition, Pakistan's cooking competitor Mohid Mehboob is sharing more than just culinary skills – he's showcasing his country's flavors and traditions.

Mohid noted that Pakistan is participating in WorldSkills for the first time, representing the country in cooking, electrical installation, and graphic design. He attributed their thorough preparation to six months of training with guidance from German experts.

When it comes to introducing Pakistan to the world through food, Mohid believes that the country's signature spice blend, garam masala, is a perfect representative. He described it as having aromatic and spicy notes similar to China's five-spice powder.

"We use it in almost every dish, from karahi to biryani," he said.

While maintaining national identity while meeting international standards can be challenging, Mohid sees spices as a way to preserve Pakistan's distinctiveness.

“We use spices that are very rare, just as Chinese people do,” he shared warmly of his experience in China, praising the country’s cuisine and describing Shanghai as “a very modern city with excellent infrastructure and impressive cars.”

As a student at the College of Tourism & Hotel Management (COTHM), Mohid expressed hope that the strong friendship between China and Pakistan would lead to stronger cooperation in technical and vocational education and training (TVET). He mentioned Pakistan’s Prime Minister's Youth Programme, a new China-Pakistan TVET initiative signed in January 2026, aiming to train over 50,000 Pakistani young people and develop around 2,000 master trainers over five years.
