PFA Shuts Nine Water Filtration Plants Over Bacterial Contamination

UrduPoint (September 28, 2026) - The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has taken stringent measures against water quality issues, shutting down nine filtration plants due to bacterial contamination and food safety violations. This action follows inspections conducted in Lahore and its surrounding areas under the directives of PFA Director General Mansoor Ahmed.

According to PFA, laboratory tests revealed harmful bacteria in water samples from these plants, while inspections uncovered non-compliance with food safety standards related to water quality. Some units were also found lacking proper documentation, including filter replacement records and food handler certifications.

The inspection teams noted poor sanitary conditions at various food outlets, including unclean freezers, foul odors, damaged flooring, and cobwebs. Mansoor Ahmed emphasized that providing safe and quality food is a top priority for the authority, in line with Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif's vision.

Further actions include ongoing inspections across the province and legal measures against units violating regulations. Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, and Pinterest users are discussing this development, highlighting the importance of safe drinking water and food standards.
