PIMS Nursery Fire: Fact-finding Committee Constituted
ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 26th Aug, 2026) The Islamabad district administration on Wednesday constituted a fact-finding committee to determine the cause of a fire that broke out in the nursery of the Mother and Child Health (MCH) Ward at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), killing newborn babies.
According to a notification issued by the District Magistrate, the committee would ascertain the exact cause of the fire and examine factors that contributed to its spread. The committee, headed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), comprises:
- Director General of Capital Emergency Services
- Capital Development Authority (CDA) Superintendent of Police (City)
- Assistant Commissioner (Industrial Area)
- Director General (E&M), CDA
- Representatives of IESCO and PIMS.
It may also co-opt any other member deemed necessary.
The committee has been tasked with:
- Determining the exact cause of the fire.
- Assessing whether adequate and functional fire-safety measures were in place.
- Evaluating the response time and effectiveness of rescue and firefighting operations.
- Examining any other matter it considers relevant to the incident.
The district administration directed the committee to submit its report within 24 hours.
