Islamabad, (PIMS) has successfully performed five cochlear implant surgeries on deaf children, offering them a chance to regain hearing and develop speech without any financial burden on their families.

The surgeries were carried out free of cost with support and sponsorship from IMRA. Professor Dr Altaf Hussain and Associate Professor Dr Jawad Faisal from the ENT Department expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts of all involved departments, reaffirming PIMS commitment to expanding cochlear implant services, especially for underprivileged children who cannot afford this expensive procedure.

They emphasized that cochlear implantation significantly improves the quality of life for children with severe hearing loss by enabling them to hear and, subsequently, develop speech and communication skills through rehabilitation.

The ENT Department also acknowledged the professional support from the Anesthesia Department, including Professor Dr Naheed Fatima, Dr Yasmin Afridi, and Dr Abdullah. They also thanked the Pediatric Surgery Department, particularly Associate Professor Dr Khurram Arif, for their facilitation of the procedures.
