PKI Supports New Provinces At Division Level
Pakistan Kissan Ittehad (PKI) President, Khalid Mahmood Khokhar, stated on Sunday that serious consideration should be given to the idea of establishing new provinces, arguing it would alleviate the sense of deprivation felt by people in smaller areas.
Addressing a press conference, Khokhar asserted that every division ought to be granted provincial status to enhance governance and ensure an equitable distribution of resources. He noted that existing divisions already possess the fundamental infrastructure required for provincial administration, making no need for further construction.
"We need to change the system, not just the faces," he emphasized, adding that smaller cities and regions should secure their rightful share in the budget. Khokhar highlighted the agricultural sector's underperformance and suggested strengthening the economy by prospering its farmers. He urged the government to develop a mechanism to assess production costs, farmers' labor, crop support prices, and to involve farmers in these decisions.
PKI intends to continue its campaign for new provinces from its platform. Clarifying his position, Khokhar stated that he does not advocate for province creation based on linguistic grounds.
