PM Reviews Progress on Petrol Relief Scheme

The petrol pump owners' association has expressed ignorance of the Prime Minister's petrol relief package.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Sep, 2026) A meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reviewed progress on the PM Special Relief Scheme for petrol. Under the scheme, fuel subsidies are being provided to owners of motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles of up to 800cc.
The prime minister directed the establishment of facilitation desks comprising administration officials, volunteers, and petrol pump staff to assist eligible citizens in accessing the subsidy. He emphasized that desk personnel should guide people through the registration process and offer all necessary support.
He also instructed relevant authorities to enhance public awareness about the scheme. The meeting received a briefing on progress under the fuel subsidy program.
According to a statement, following a pilot launch in Islamabad, the scheme has now been rolled out nationwide. The briefing noted that the program was designed to be user-friendly and accessible, with provincial governments extending their full support for its implementation.
Meanwhile, All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners Association Chairman Humayun Khan expressed uncertainty about the government's petrol relief package, stating that petrol pump owners were not obligated to participate in the scheme. He further demanded an increase in dealers' margins.
Anwar Kamal, Vice Chairman, raised concerns about the relief scheme's mechanism and claimed that dealers had not been consulted during its development. He questioned how the government would compensate dealers for discounted petrol. "It has been three days; we have been trying to reach out to the government but have received no response," he added.
