PM Stresses Literacy As Key To Progress, Prosperity

PM Shehbaz Sharif stated that literacy is pivotal in determining the quality of life and charting a path towards progress and prosperity. He emphasized its role in promoting peace, positive values, and shared humanity interests globally.

In his message on International Literacy Day, the Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s participation, celebrating learning and teaching as a shared human quest for knowledge. This year’s theme, “Literacy for People, Planet and Prosperity”, underscores literacy’s power to empower individuals and societies, paving the way towards sustainable development.

Sharif defined literacy beyond mere reading and writing skills; it involves transforming ideological, religious, social, economic, and national foundations into a brighter future. He stressed that shaping future generations through quality education aligns with the nation’s commitment to equal, inclusive, and accessible learning for all.

At the national level, the government aims to:

  • Ensure digital literacy, skills development, research, and innovation.
  • Implement a comprehensive strategy to raise literacy rates nationwide.
  • Provide students with contemporary-relevant education.
  • Enroll out-of-school children through special programs like Daanish Schools, ensuring equal access regardless of socio-economic status.

The Prime Minister commended initiatives like Daanish Schools for offering free, quality education to disadvantaged children, including orphans, fostering talent development and social inclusion. He also acknowledged the efforts of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) in equipping Pakistan’s youth with globally competitive skills.
