Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has clarified that the recognition of medical and dental colleges is granted strictly according to the applicable legal and regulatory framework and prescribed standards.

According to the council's spokesperson, PM&DC has approved 1,400 seats in public sector medical and dental colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Islamabad Capital Territory, and Punjab in response to the national need to increase opportunities for deserving students.

The initiative aims to:

  • Facilitate access to medical education for students from underprivileged regions.
  • Prevent deserving students from seeking opportunities abroad.

The spokesperson emphasized that the PM&DC is committed to:

  • Promoting access to affordable and quality medical and dental education within Pakistan.
  • Maintaining the quality and standards of medical and dental education in the country.

They also addressed a misconception, stating that private-sector medical colleges have been allocated more seats than public-sector institutions. The council applies the same regulatory standards to all medical and dental institutions, regardless of their public or private sector status.
