Polio Eradication Campaign Reviewed

HYDERABAD (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News) - 16th Sep, 2026: Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad Division, Ghulam Qadir Khan Talpur, has instructed all relevant departments to strengthen coordination and ensure every child under five receives the polio vaccine during the upcoming campaign.
He gave these directives while chairing a meeting of the Divisional Task Force for Polio at his office on Tuesday. The gathering reviewed polio eradication activities, vaccination rates, micro-planning, and challenges faced during campaigns across the three districts: Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, and Naushahro Feroze.
Attending the meeting were:
- Deputy Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad, Abdul Samad Nizamani
- Additional Commissioner-II, Syed Ammar Hussain
- District Health Officer, Dr Mudassar Hussain Domki
- Communication Officer, Akbar Ali Junejo
- Officials from health departments and District Polio Emergency Operation Centres
- Representatives from WHO, UNICEF, Police, Education Department, Local Government, PPHI, Social Welfare, and other relevant departments.
Deputy Commissioner Sanghar, Sarah Javed, Additional Deputy Commissioner Naushahro Feroze, Muhammad Mustaqeem Qureshi, and health officials also participated via video link.
Glum Qadir Khan Talpur described polio eradication as a national responsibility, calling for concerted efforts from all sectors to achieve the goal. He emphasized ensuring access to every child under five and preventing any child from being left out during vaccination activities.
The Commissioner ordered continuous monitoring of team performance and field presence, stressing that house-to-house vaccinations must strictly adhere to approved micro-plans. He requested special attention to sensitive and remote areas and directed district administrations, Health Department, and other concerned institutions to resolve campaign issues through effective coordination.
Furthermore, he instructed administrations, police, and health authorities in all three districts to ensure secure environments for polio teams and provide necessary support to field vaccination workers.
Talpur urged parents, teachers, religious scholars, political and social leaders, and society at large to support the eradication campaign and raise awareness about the importance of administering polio drops to children during every campaign.
During the briefing, Divisional Polio Officer from WHO, Dr Jahangir Korai, and health department officials informed the meeting about ongoing measures:
- Tracking children
- Identifying unvaccinated children
- Engaging with families refusing vaccination
- Monitoring high-risk areas
- Ensuring access for teams to riverine and remote settlements.
The meeting was also informed that a Special Anti-Polio Campaign will be conducted across all three districts of Shaheed Benazirabad Division.
