Following Ataullah’s victory, the Pakistan Peoples Party’s seats in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly have risen to 16.

The Pakistan Peoples Party candidate was declared the winner in Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly constituency GB-16 Diamer-II after the postal ballot papers were counted, changing the election result.
PPP candidate Ataullah was successful with a 13-vote margin after securing 6,618 votes against Imam Malik’s 6,605 votes. The count was conducted under Section 95 of the Elections Act 2017 on the order of the election tribunal.
In the initial elections held on 7 June, Imam Malik had been declared the winner without the postal ballots being counted, after which he joined the Istihkam-e-Pakistan Party.
Ataullah had challenged Imam Malik’s victory notification before the election tribunal, leading to a recount of the postal ballots. After completing the count and scrutiny, the returning officer issued Form 49 declaring Ataullah the winner.
With his victory, the PPP’s seats in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly have increased to 16, while the number of Istihkam-e-Pakistan Party members has fallen to 6.
