Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said the proposed relocation from Karachi would improve efficiency and reduce costs, while most employees based at field locations and other offices would remain unaffected.

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Oct, 2026) Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry on Friday stated that the proposed relocation of Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) headquarters from Karachi to Islamabad was purely an operational and administrative matter aimed at improving efficiency and reducing unnecessary expenses.

Responding to a Calling Attention Notice moved by Senators Syed Waqar Mehdi and Zamir Hussain Ghumro in the Senate, he rejected concerns that the proposal was driven by regional or provincial considerations.

He explained that the decision was being considered based on technical and operational grounds, adding that the company's board had repeatedly highlighted the need to vacate the existing building due to its condition.

The minister noted that around 77 per cent of PPL employees were based at field locations and other offices and would not be affected by the relocation. Only approximately 15 per cent of the workforce was located at the headquarters, he added.

Talal Chaudhry argued that maintaining offices and administrative arrangements at two locations would increase costs, ultimately placing an unnecessary financial burden on the public.

He emphasized that the company's board and management should be allowed to make decisions based on operational requirements rather than considering provincial perspectives.

He further stated that PPL possessed substantial assets in Balochistan and operated in Sindh, and the location of its headquarters should not be determined based on provincial interests.

The minister maintained that the proposal was technical and administrative in nature and aimed to neither affect employees nor undermine the interests of any province.
