LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Sep, 2026) Professor Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal, Principal of Ameer-ud-Din Medical College (AMC), Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI), and Lahore General Hospital (LGH), has retired after successfully completing his tenure, marking the culmination of a distinguished career dedicated to medical education, patient care, clinical research, and institutional development.

His tenure was characterized by relentless efforts to modernize medical education, enhance healthcare delivery, and bolster institutional capacity. Members of the Academic Council, senior health professionals, and hospital administrators lavishly praised Prof. Farooq Afzal for his tireless work, unwavering professional integrity, contributions to medical research, and pivotal role in transforming LGH into a more patient-focused healthcare institution. They expressed their gratitude and offered prayers for his continued good health and longevity.

A formal luncheon was hosted by Medical Superintendent LGH, Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain, in honour of the retiring Principal, attended by a large gathering of administrative doctors and senior faculty members.

In his farewell address, Prof. Faryad Hussain emphasized the enduring strength and pride of society found in medical teachers. He expressed confidence that the institution would continue to benefit from Prof. Farooq Afzal's vast experience in administration, academia, and clinical practice.

Meanwhile, a significant expansion initiative was also announced at the farewell ceremony, aiming to address increasing patient loads and growing demands for modern healthcare facilities at Lahore General Hospital. The project involves adding an additional floor to cater to these needs.
