PTI lawmakers arrived at the Sindh Assembly on donkey carts in protest against rising petrol prices, chanting slogans like "No to the petrol bomb" and "Looting the pockets of the poor."
According to MNA Faheem Khan, posted on X, members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the Sindh Assembly reached the assembly on donkey carts, carrying signs with various protest messages. They claimed that while the government talked about austerity, it was dropping a "petrol bomb" on citizens by increasing prices.
They further criticized the government for using planes and helicopters while people struggled to afford petrol. "Petrol has now reached Rs450, people cannot afford petrol; donkey carts are the real austerity," they stated.
Meanwhile, the government has made a minor reduction in petrol prices after several increases. OGRA announced a slight decrease, with petrol price dropping by Rs1.65 and diesel price increasing by 88 paisas per litre. The new prices will be in effect from midnight tonight.
Oil marketing companies have also demanded an immediate increase in their margins, citing rising costs and dealer margins. The Oil Companies Advisory Council wrote to OGRA, requesting implementation of a decision to boost company margins by Rs1.22 per litre, citing claims worth Rs66 billion pending since March 2026.
The council highlighted the financial strain on oil companies and regional tensions impacting supply chains.
