Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has stated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is accountable for the downfall of the provincial government, attributing it to the party's desire to align with and support Afghanistan and the Taliban. He added that governor’s rule became necessary due to this stance.
Khattak, while speaking to the media after a meeting with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, noted that the decision to impose governor’s rule was challenging because it is not a politically palatable step. However, he emphasized that PTI's flawed strategy led to unforeseen circumstances, leaving no alternative. He further claimed that if anyone within PTI had the ability to think strategically, the situation wouldn't have deteriorated to this extent.
Regarding his political future, Khattak affirmed that he remains independent and has no plans to join another party.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, in his remarks, acknowledged Pervez Khattak's extensive political career and his efforts to promote Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's development by engaging the opposition during his tenure. He highlighted Khattak's ongoing efforts to address the province's issues, including his participation in the recent historic meeting of the Apex Committee in Peshawar, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif listened to the province's concerns and assured their resolution.
