Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Mahmood Khan has made some significant allegations in an interview. He stated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party is no longer strong and suggested that its leadership should prioritize dialogue over protests.
Khan claimed that court cases against PTI leaders will only result in changed hearing dates, encouraging them to negotiate under all circumstances. He criticized PTI's planned protest on September 27, warning that it could lead to negative consequences for the party itself.
Allegations Regarding PTI and Chief Minister House
The former chief minister revealed details about the selection process of Sohail Afridi as the CM. According to Khan, Imran Khan personally knew two of the three candidates presented to him and rejected them. He then drew lots for Sohail Afridi's name, unaware of his lack of government experience.
Khan further alleged that Sohail Afridi's brother and close aides had turned the Chief Minister House into a source of income. He also expressed disappointment in Ali Amin Gandapur's performance as CM, stating he achieved nothing during his 19-month tenure.
Criticism of Ali Amin Gandapur and TTP Involvement
Mahmood Khan sharply criticized Gandapur, accusing him of working for the opposing side while in office. This led to Imran Khan's removal of Gandapur. He also disclosed that an in-camera meeting discussed bringing back individuals affiliated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from Afghanistan, a decision made collectively by the party leadership at the time.
Regarding PTI's internal dynamics, Khan mentioned Shah Mahmood Qureshi's suggestion to dissolve the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in 2023, which was opposed by the local leadership but later supported by Punjab leaders, including Fawad Chaudhry.
