PU Rejects Allegations, Says Financial Position Improves
Punjab University spokesperson has rejected allegations leveled by the Joint Action Committee, saying the administration’s response to all allegations is based on official record, facts and the university’s improved performance.
Addressing an emergency press conference, the spokesperson stated that the formation and recent activities of the Joint Action Committee coincided with ongoing inquiries into the Town-III matter. He noted that complaints regarding appointments, administrative affairs, and other matters involving committee members were under review according to university rules and law.
He emphasized that accountability proceedings cannot be halted through protests or pressure, adding that all matters would be decided based on evidence, rules, regulations, and through competent legal forums. The administration, he assured, would neither take retaliatory action nor halt legal proceedings under pressure.
The spokesperson revealed that Punjab University’s Finance and Planning Committee, Syndicate, and other statutory bodies were functioning effectively, with budget, income, expenditure, and investment decisions made after due institutional approval and auditing.
He highlighted the following achievements:
- Income increase: From approximately Rs7 billion to Rs12.5 billion.
- Budget deficit decline: From around Rs2.86 billion to Rs1.6 billion due to financial discipline and expenditure controls.
- Energy savings: Around 5 million units of electricity saved.
- Enhanced admissions: Over 15,000 admissions, reflecting a 40% increase in new enrollments.
The spokesperson affirmed the university’s commitment to focusing on education, research, financial stability, transparency, merit, accountability, and institutional reforms, stating that its affairs would be conducted according to law and institutional rules rather than the interests of any individual or group.
