Punjab Plans "Dastak Centers" at Union Council Level
The Punjab government on Tuesday planned to establish Dastak Centers at Union Council (UC) level across the province to improve public access to government services.
A meeting chaired by Local Government Secretary Zaid Bin Maqsood was held with the Punjab Information Technology board (PITB), where officials briefed participants on the establishment of Dastak Centers and the proposed service delivery mechanism. PITB Chairman, Faisal Yousaf gave a detailed briefing on the proposed service delivery model, while the meeting reviewed requirements for buildings, IT facilities, and public accessibility for the centers.
More than 170 government services will be provided under one roof through the Dastak Centers while the project was expected to cost over Rs. 4 billion. The meeting was informed that field assessment of Union Councils for the establishment of the Dastak Centers had already been completed.
Secretary Local Government Zaid Bin Maqsood directed that more than 4,000 Union Councils across Punjab be included in the Dastak Centers project. He stated that services at each Union Council should be determined according to local public needs. He emphasized that establishment of Dastak Centers at the Union Council level would further improve the quality and accessibility of public services and provide greater convenience to citizens.
Special Secretary Administration Arshad Baig and the Director General PITB also attended the meeting.
