Punjab Records Major Wildlife Conservation Gains in Two Years: Marriyum Aurangzeb

Senior Provincial Minister Punjab Marriyum Aurangzeb, in her message on World Wildlife Day, stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab government has achieved significant milestones in wildlife conservation, protection, rehabilitation, breeding, and adoption of modern technology during the last two years.
She highlighted that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had accomplished unprecedented work in the environment and wildlife sectors within just two years. The Punjab government has initiated several landmark projects to modernize wildlife conservation and establish a comprehensive framework for protecting and rehabilitating wildlife across the province.
Marriyum Aurangzeb mentioned the following achievements:
- Pakistan's first wildlife hospital: Built according to international standards, offering advanced medical and rehabilitation facilities for wildlife.
- Wildlife 7D Cinema: A unique initiative to raise public awareness and educate citizens, especially children, about wildlife and nature.
- Nature-based recreational activities: Developed in forests, catering to people of all ages, allowing them to connect with nature and understand the importance of forests and wildlife.
- AI-based wildlife survey: The first of its kind in Pakistan, aiming to gather accurate data on wildlife populations and improve conservation efforts.
- Tree Cafés and Giraffe Cafés: Promoting plantation and the Green Punjab vision, along with raising awareness about giraffe breeding.
- Lifting the ban on animal import: Encouraging wildlife breeding and conservation of various species in Punjab.
- Upgraded zoos: Improved care for animals and birds, alongside enhanced recreational and educational facilities for the public.
- Rescue centers: Established across Punjab to rescue animals and birds from illegal captivity, rescuing over 50,000 birds and 1,000 rare wild animals in two years.
- Rescue fleet: Comprising 13 rescue vehicles, a mobile veterinary clinic, and three rescue and rehabilitation centers for effective wildlife rescue operations.
