Qatari officials stated that their delegation, led by a senior advisor to Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, has arrived in Tehran for talks with Iranian officials.
During their visit, bilateral relations and the current regional situation will be discussed. Earlier, a report by Reuters mentioned that Qatari mediators were in Tehran, maintaining contact with Washington, in an effort to facilitate a potential agreement between Iran and the United States.
The Reuters report further stated that a proposed peace plan was presented by the Qatari delegation during their October 25th visit. However, an Iranian official characterized the proposals as unacceptable and emphasized Iran’s position on the nuclear issue.
The report highlights the contrasting views: Washington desires the nuclear issue to be addressed from the outset of negotiations, while Iran insists on the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil exports and the blockade of its ports before any such discussion.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi had previously expressed ongoing contact with mediators to assess the prospects of Iran’s proposed seven-day plan to end the war.
In response to reports of Vice President JD Vance’s communication with Iran, U.S. President Donald Trump clarified that these contacts were regarding the supply of medical equipment. Nonetheless, U.S. media linked these interactions to efforts to revive peace negotiations.
