British political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos, a vocal supporter of US President Donald Trump and former editor of the right-wing US website Breitbart, was apparently detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to the agency's records.
Yiannopoulos, 41, who currently resides in the US, appears to be held in Louisiana.
The self-proclaimed "most fabulous supervillain on the internet" has been a subject of controversy due to his remarks about transgender people, Muslims, Black Lives Matter activists, feminists, and gay individuals, despite identifying as gay himself and now calling himself an "ex-gay".
He has garnered criticism from various quarters, including:
- His support for stricter US immigration restrictions.
- Condoning paedophilia in a 2017 incident that led to his uninviting from a conservative conference.
- Association with the alt-right, a nationalist group that includes neo-Nazis and white supremacists, though he denies being part of it.
Yiannopoulos' name and British origins are currently listed in ICE's nationwide detainee search results. The circumstances surrounding his detention remain unclear.
