Rs 76.18 Billion Allocated For 121 Development Projects in Bahawalpur
BAHAWALPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Sep, 2026) Chairman District Coordination Committee MPA Mian Muhammad Shoaib Awaisi chaired a review meeting to assess progress on various development projects in the district. The meeting delved into the pace of work, financial progress and completion status of development projects being implemented under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2026-27.
According to a report presented by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Bahawalpur and the Planning and Development Department:
- A total of 121 development projects have been included in the ADP 2026-27 for Bahawalpur district, with an estimated cost of Rs76.181 billion.
- These comprise 107 ongoing and seven new projects, while 34 projects have already been completed.
- The report stated that Rs6.856 billion had been allocated for these projects during the financial year 2026-27.
The Communication and Works Department holds the largest development portfolio, encompassing 60 projects.
Breakdown of allocation by department:
- Sports and Youth Affairs: Rs280 million for 9 projects
- Local Government and Community Development: Rs1.183 billion for 6 projects
- Forest and Wildlife: Rs600 million for 2 projects
- Home Department: Rs54 million for 4 projects
- Irrigation, Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering: Rs93 million for 5 projects
New Projects:
The report highlights seven new projects with an estimated total cost of Rs22.033 billion, allocated Rs1.527 billion during the current financial year. Notable among these is the Children’s Hospital Bahawalpur, estimated at Rs11.741 billion.
The meeting also reviewed progress on various major development projects:
- Burn Unit at Bahawal Victoria Hospital: Rs4.3 billion allocated
- Uch Sharif Sharfine Conservation Project: Rs595 million
- Southern Bypass Phase-I: Rs917 million
- Chuneri Making Centre: Estimated cost Rs500 million
- Dingarh Fort and Lal Suhanra Ecotourism projects
- Development scheme for Bahawalpur Zoo: Rs3.48 billion
The meeting emphasized:
- Timely completion of development projects
- Maintenance of construction quality
- Prioritization of public interest
