Russian Stadium Cancels Kanye West Performances
BBC News reports that Russia's Gazprom Arena has canceled two scheduled concerts by Ye (formerly known as Kanye West), citing a lack of signed rental agreement with the concert promoters.
West's 2026 tour has been hit by cancellations amid backlash over his history of antisemitic comments.
The stadium had previously announced the shows, which were set for October 10th and 11th, stating that West would be the first major Western performer to play Russia since its invasion of Ukraine in 2022. However, they now claim no agreement was signed.
The stadium acknowledged receiving complaints about West's appearance and emphasized they are not responsible for his booking. The promoter, Say Agency, claimed surprise at the cancellation, stating they had received approval for the concerts earlier in the month.
West's performances have largely avoided referencing the controversial last six years of his life, which included antisemitic remarks leading to account suspensions and brand terminations.
Fans expressed disappointment on social media, while some Russian politicians had already opposed the concerts, suggesting West perform traditional Russian music instead.
