Sakhi Sarwar police net 143 Afghans, smuggled goods worth Rs 73 mln

Sakhi Sarwar Police Crackdown on Afghan Nationals and Smuggling (UrduPoint, 03 Sep, 2026)

Sakhi Sarwar police have arrested 143 Afghans attempting to illegally enter Punjab during August. This follows tightened security checks at entry points across the district, led by the District Police Officer (DPO) of Dera Ghazi Khan.

Specific operations targeted both illegal border crossings and non-customs-paid goods:

  • Strict inspections at the Sakhi Sarwar check post resulted in seizures of diesel, vehicles, Iranian cloth, tyres, cigarettes, betel nuts, shampoo, mobile phones and detergent, among other items.
  • The total value of recovered non-customs-paid goods exceeded Rs72,941,905. These have been handed over to customs for further action.

The DPO has ordered intensified checks at the Sakhi Sarwar check post to prevent further illegal activities and smuggling.

Action against lawbreakers will continue without distinction.
