All processions, sit-ins and public gatherings have been banned, with the provincial government warning that such events could become easy targets for terrorist attacks.
LAHORE (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Sep, 2026) The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province from September 23 to October 5 amid deteriorating law and order and a possible wave of protests and terrorism threats.
The order completely bans all types of processions, sit-ins and public gatherings.
According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, Section 144 has been enforced under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. The decision was based on emergency reports received from intelligence agencies and law enforcement institutions, which stated that proscribed and terrorist organisations were planning attacks by making public gatherings, rallies and demonstrations easy targets.
It was further stated that, to ensure the protection of life and property, the gathering of 5 or more people at public places, highways and open spaces, the display of weapons, and inciting people to participate in illegal gatherings would remain completely prohibited. The ban will not apply to wedding ceremonies, funeral prayers, burials, mosques or other places of worship.
A spokesperson for the Home Department clarified that courts, government institutions, routine activities conducted with formal administrative permission, and law enforcement and security personnel performing their duties would also be exempt from the restrictions.
The provincial government has urged citizens to respect the law and ensure cooperation with security institutions.
