Senator Sherry Rehman Condemns Murder of Hina Javed in Rawalpindi
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Vice President and Senator Sherry Rehman has strongly condemned the brutal murder of Hina Javed in Rawalpindi, who was a victim of domestic violence. She described the killing of another woman subjected to domestic violence as deeply tragic and heartbreaking.
Rehman stressed that domestic violence cannot be considered a private matter and must be challenged at the societal level. She noted that while laws to protect women exist, their effective implementation is urgent, especially regarding conviction rates in domestic violence cases. She called for strict prosecution and speedy trials to ensure justice for victims.
The senator stated that Parliament has already taken steps with relevant legislation, and courts must now ensure prompt trials and appropriate punishments without delay. She demanded a complete and impartial investigation into Javed's murder and unhampered legal action against the accused.
Rehman emphasized the need for exemplary punishment for guilty parties to deter future crimes. She also advocated for strengthening systems providing legal protection, safe shelters, and support for women facing violence. She concluded by stressing the importance of collective awareness to ensure women's respect, protection, and equal rights, creating an environment where they can live safely and with dignity.
