Several Drug Addicts Shifted to DRC Under CM’s Initiative

UrduPoint (19 August, 2026) reported that the Balochistan Social Welfare Department, acting on the Chief Minister’s directive, has taken significant steps towards combating drug addiction in Quetta.

During a recent action, several drug addicts and homeless individuals were rescued from Circular Road and adjacent areas and transferred to the Detoxification and Rehabilitation Complex (DRC) in Quetta for treatment and rehabilitation.

This initiative, titled "Drug Free Quetta, A Model City," aims to:

  • Eradicate drugs from Quetta city.
  • Remove drug addicts from unsafe environments and roads and provide them with safe housing.
  • Offer free detoxification, medical treatment, counseling, and rehabilitation facilities.

The focus is not only on rescuing addicts but also on reintegrating them into society as healthy, dignified, and responsible citizens after treatment. The program emphasizes rehabilitation, counseling, skill development, social integration, and public awareness about the dangers of drugs.

The Social Welfare Department views these individuals as deserving of treatment, care, support, and rehabilitation, not simply as criminals. They are committed to helping them achieve a "drug-free Quetta, healthy youth, safe society, and prosperous Balochistan."
