Shaza Fatima Announces Three Changes in PM Fuel Relief Scheme

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Sep, 2026)

Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, on Saturday announced three major changes to the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme aimed at benefiting motorcycle, rickshaw, and Qingqi users.

Addressing a media briefing, the minister explained that the eligibility criteria had been extended to motorcycles registered from January 1, 2006, rather than the previously set cut-off of 2011. This decision was made in response to citizen feedback regarding older motorcycle eligibility.

Additionally, she highlighted changes to the token system:

  • The Rs 500 per-token limit for two- and three-wheelers has been revised.
  • The previous five-litre limit per token is abolished, allowing eligible users to purchase fuel according to their needs.
  • Eligible two and three-wheeler users can now receive four tokens per month, each carrying a relief amount of Rs500. For instance, if two litres of petrol cost Rs780, a beneficiary would pay only Rs280 after applying the Rs500 relief token.

A third significant change is the abolition of SMS charges for all participants in the scheme.

The minister emphasized that these measures aim to ensure wider access to the relief scheme and address citizen concerns. She mentioned that over 1.75 million registrations had been completed by 3 p.m., with around 1.5 million tokens generated, and more than 680,000 tokens already redeemed at petrol stations.

Shaza Fatima stated that the government is closely monitoring registration and token redemption figures, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally oversees the scheme's implementation. A steering committee headed by the Deputy Prime Minister, along with an implementation committee, is collaborating with relevant ministries, departments, OGRA, the State Bank of Pakistan, and other institutions to address implementation challenges.

A 24-hour control room has also been established at the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication to handle complaints. The minister urged citizens to remain vigilant against fraudsters, reminding them that no charges are levied for registration, SMS, or token issuance. She advised against sharing personal information, such as CNIC numbers and vehicle details, with unauthorized individuals. Complaints can be registered by calling 9771.
