Sindh Chief Minister Appreciates Historic Achievement Of Deaf Youth Leader

KARACHI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17th Aug, 2026) Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, met Muhammad Ahmed Khan, Secretary of the Pakistan Association of the Deaf Youth Section (PADYS), who has achieved the distinction of becoming the first Pakistani recipient of the prestigious World Deaf Leadership (WDL) Scholarship awarded by Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C, USA, the world’s leading institution for Deaf education.
The meeting, held at CM House, was attended by:
- Minister Local Government Nasir Shah
- Minister Home Ziaul Hassan Lanjar
- Secretary DEPD Tauha Farooqi and others.
During the meeting, representatives of the Pakistan Association of the Deaf (PAD) informed the Chief Minister that Muhammad Ahmed Khan had been selected for a three-year Master of Arts programme in Deaf Studies commencing in Fall 2026. They highlighted that upon completion of his studies, he intended to return to Pakistan and utilize his knowledge and international experience for the empowerment and advancement of the Deaf community.
Congratulating Ahmed Khan on this remarkable achievement, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said:
- “His selection for such a prestigious international scholarship is a matter of immense pride for Sindh and the whole country.”
- “The accomplishment reflects the immense talent and potential of persons with disabilities when provided with equal opportunities and access to quality education.”
The Chief Minister added:
- “Muhammad Ahmed Khan has become a source of inspiration for thousands of young people, particularly members of the Deaf community. His success demonstrates determination, hard work, and access to education which can overcome barriers and create opportunities at the highest international level.”
Reaffirming the Sindh Government’s commitment to inclusion, the Chief Minister said:
- that the provincial government was implementing various initiatives under the Sindh Persons with Disabilities Act, 2018, to ensure equal rights, accessibility, and educational opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The Chief Minister directed the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD) and the Education Department to explore avenues for recognizing and supporting outstanding achievements of differently-abled individuals and to promote success stories that encourage youth across the province. He also instructed the relevant departments to maintain coordination with the Pakistan Association of the Deaf and develop proposals aimed at strengthening educational and leadership opportunities for the Deaf community in Sindh.
Muhammad Ahmed Khan thanked the Chief Minister for his encouragement and support, and expressed his commitment to serving Pakistan’s Deaf community upon completion of his studies.
