Pakistan has conveyed Saudi Arabia’s message to Iran, said Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif in a private television programme.

He stated that, in his opinion, the situation has emerged where the Mecca Agreement needs to be implemented. He refused to provide details but emphasized Pakistan's obligation to implement the agreement.

Asif claimed Pakistan had delivered Saudi Arabia’s message to Iran, adding he didn't believe Iran, as a state, would open a new front in the region.

He further said that even without an agreement, protecting the holy sites was Pakistan's responsibility. He asserted there wouldn’t be a need for an agreement if Makkah faced an attack.

"The Mecca Agreement applies to Pakistan, and we will fulfill our duty," he added. "I think the situation has emerged in which the Mecca Agreement needs to be implemented."
