Social Media, WhatsApp Groups Auxiliary in Information Dissemination: Hyderabad Commissioner

Commissioner Hyderabad Division, Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi, has stated that social media, particularly WhatsApp groups, have proven to be auxiliary in disseminating information to the administration. While acknowledging that traditional channels might not always provide timely updates, he emphasized the need for responsibility and fact-verification while utilizing these platforms.

He delivered these remarks as the chief guest at a five-day media training program titled "The Digital Democracy Landscape: Social Media, Civic Participation, and Public Engagement", organized by the Women Media Center Pakistan (WMC) in Hyderabad.

The Commissioner urged students of Media and Mass Communication to play a positive role in highlighting societal issues and ground realities, enabling the administration to address public concerns and make informed decisions.

He noted that digital media has become an essential tool for public liaison and civic participation, urging professionals to enhance their skills according to modern-day requirements.

During the program, participants engaged in practical exercises, discussions, and interactive sessions to learn about responsible and effective digital platform usage. Aimed at empowering women journalists, media students, and professionals with modern digital media skills, the training will run from October 6 to October 10, 2026.
