SPI-based Inflation Rises 0.65%
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Sep, 2026) The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based weekly inflation increased by 0.65 percent during the week ended on September 3, for the combined consumption group, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
SPI Data:
- SPI for the week: 363.42 points (up from 361.07 points in the previous week)
- Year-on-year SPI increase: 8.35 percent
- Coverage: 17 urban centres and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.
Consumption Group Variations:
- Lowest consumption group (up to Rs 17,732): Increased by 0.91 percent to 352.61 points.
- Other consumption groups: Experienced increases ranging from 0.58 percent to 0.90 percent.
Price Changes:
- Increase: Prices of 17 items (33.33%) increased, with onions leading at 26.30 percent.
- Decrease: Prices of 7 items (13.73%) decreased, including bananas (-2.54%) and pulse moong (-0.69%).
- Unchanged: 27 items (52.94%) remained unchanged.
Year-on-Year Comparison:
- Major increases observed in onions (162.75%), LPG (53.61%), diesel (37.70%), petrol (31.01%), electricity (25.24%), wheat flour (16.86%), chilies powder (16.37%), bananas (16.07%), mutton (16.03%), beef (13.31%), milk fresh (8.21%), and bread plain (8.09%).
- Decreases seen in potatoes (-31.61%), chicken (-23.50%), sugar (-19.38%), eggs (-18.18%), salt powder (-13.96%), pulse gram (-12.95%), pulse masoor (-12.16%), and pulse moong (-7.19%).
