SPI-Inflation Slightly Up By 0.05%

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Aug, 2026) The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based weekly inflation slightly increased by 0.05 percent during the week ended on August 27, 2026, for the combined consumption group, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Key Findings:

  • SPI for Combined Group: The SPI rose to 361.07 points from 360.90 points in the previous week.
  • Year-on-Year Change: A 9.04 percent increase was observed on a year-over-year basis.
  • Decrease in Lowest Consumption Group: This group experienced a 0.17 percent decrease in SPI to 349.42 points.
  • Price Changes:
    • Increased Prices: 20 items (39.22%) saw price rises, including LPG (3.46%), diesel (2.44%), electricity (20.6%), petrol (1.71%), toilet soap (0.93%), pulse gram (0.88%), wheat flour (0.39%), eggs (0.34%), and others.
    • Decreased Prices: 11 items (21.56%) witnessed price drops, including tomatoes (-18.65%), chicken (-4.41%), onions (-2.87%), bananas (-2.80%), garlic (-1.02%), rice IRRI-6/9 (-0.42%), rice basmati broken (-0.41%), and potatoes (-0.39%).

Year-on-Year Comparison:

  • Major Declines: Potatoes (-31.33%), chicken (-23.87%), sugar (-19.33%), eggs (-17.97%), salt powder (-13.96%), pulse gram (-12.01%), and others.
  • Notable Increases: Onions (125.86%), LPG (55.66%), wheat flour (45.28%), tomatoes (36.69%), diesel (36.33%), petrol (29.84%), electricity charges (25.24%), chilies powder (16.37%), mutton (16.01%), beef (13.61%), and plain bread (9.37%).
