We must fix our criminal justice system; attempts to suppress crime data through extrajudicial killings make it impossible to formulate a strategy to combat crime, says former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Oct, 2026) Former Inspector General of Police Ehsan Ghani has said that thinking measures such as extrajudicial killings can eliminate crime is merely an illusion, stressing that the criminal justice system must be fixed.
Speaking on a Geo News programme, he asked why the system was not being reformed and said no one was stopping the authorities from fixing the criminal justice system.
Crime can never be eliminated through measures such as extrajudicial killings, and believing otherwise may be nothing more than an illusion. The idea is that crime will end through extrajudicial killings because it is a shortcut; such measures are used to suppress crime data, and once the data is suppressed, the crime statistics become faulty.
When the data is incorrect, no strategy can be developed to deal with crime, nor can the government be told that crime is rising and that certain measures can be taken to control it, because the statistics would be indicating something else about whether crime is increasing or decreasing.
