It has not been an easy season for Trent Alexander-Arnold, the English full-back who joined Real Madrid in June 2025 with high hopes.
With the arrival of Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan, competition for the right-back position intensified. Manager Jose Mourinho now seems to favor Fede Valverde, a midfielder by trade, as a starter at right-back, leaving Alexander-Arnold as the third choice. This raises questions about his future at the club.
Alexander-Arnold has been involved in seven of Real Madrid's 13 games this season, starting just four and providing one assist—in a 4-0 win over Malaga. His involvement has significantly decreased in the last four games, with limited playing time.
A Dream Come True
When Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid, it was a dream come true for the 28-year-old. He impressed fans with his Spanish speech during his first public appearance, saying, "I'm very happy and proud to be here. I'm eager to show the club and the fans what I can do."
His signing was seen as part of Real's succession plan at right-back, with potential to cover for Dani Carvajal and, eventually, succeed him. However, his first season fell short of expectations.
Mitigating Factors
Several factors have contributed to Alexander-Arnold's struggles. Injuries played a significant role, hampering his progress and preventing him from establishing a consistent presence on the pitch.
In light of these challenges, it's important to remember that Alexander-Arnold's future at Real Madrid is not yet sealed. With perseverance and the right opportunities, he could yet prove his worth and secure a pivotal role in the team.
