Thousands affected and roads closed after burst pipe
BBC News - Sussex homes are experiencing water supply issues and road closures due to a significant leak, according to Sussex Police.
Impacted Areas:
- About 9,000 customers in West Sussex are without water or facing low pressure issues.
- Areas affected include Woolborough Road, Holmcroft, Southgate, Tilgate, and Furnace Green.
Incident Details:
- The burst pipe caused flooding around the Southgate Roundabout in Crawley on Sunday morning.
- Southern Water reported that supplies were restored to some homes by 19:45 BST, with their teams working to repair the damage.
- The damaged water main has been removed and replaced.
Residents' Experiences:
- John Boulton, an 82-year-old resident, shared his frustration about the lack of water supply, having paid for bottled water.
- Martin Lawrence, a delivery driver, witnessed extensive flooding in the area early morning.
- Ryan Beck reported no water pressure on the upstairs level of his home and flooded underpasses.
Water Restoration Tips:
- When supplies return, water may appear discoloured or have bubbles; this is normal and should clear once the network stabilizes.
- If water is cloudy or white, leave it in a glass for a few minutes to see if it clears (it might contain trapped air).
- Run taps for a few minutes if water is brown or black, and try again after 20 minutes if it doesn't clear initially.
- Once the water runs clear, it's safe to use as normal.
