Three Sentenced to Life Imprisonment, Fined Rs100 Million Each in Wheat Smuggling Case
GILGIT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Aug, 2026) The Anti-Corruption Court of Gilgit-Baltistan has sentenced three convicts to life imprisonment and fined them Rs100 million each in a case involving the smuggling and black marketing of wheat.
On Monday, Judge Mahmood-ul-Hassan announced the verdict, finding Basit Ali, Ehsan Ali and Abid Hussain guilty of smuggling and black-marketing 100,000 kilograms of wheat.
The court also ordered that the movable and immovable properties of the convicts would be confiscated in case of non-payment of the fine. The judge directed the immediate arrest of the three convicts and their transfer to jail following the announcement of the verdict.
The court adopted a strict stance against the illegal smuggling and black marketing of essential commodities, observing that such practices adversely affect the availability of food items for the general public.
The verdict is being regarded as a significant judicial action against wheat smuggling and black marketing in Gilgit-Baltistan.
