Trophy Hunting Programme Auction Draws $356,000 Bid For Markhor

The auction of the trophy hunting programme in Gilgit-Baltistan has resulted in a staggering bid of $356,000 for hunting an Astor markhor, as per the Wildlife Department. This exciting development involved domestic and foreign outfitters and representatives who actively participated in the bidding process.
Beyond the Astor markhor, substantial bids were placed for other species:
- Skuwar: $301,000
- Manawar: $301,000
- Burmis: $301,000
- Sain Jaglot: $294,000
The Wildlife Department has issued licences to hunt 118 wild animals, including markhor, across various districts of Gilgit-Baltistan. This programme is projected to generate over Rs700 million in revenue this year. Notably, eighty percent of the licence income is allocated to local communities, while the remaining twenty percent goes to the government treasury.
