Trump calls off livestream for Fort Hood shooter's execution by firing squad

Trump Calls Off Livestream of Fort Hood Attacker's Execution by Firing Squad

US President Donald Trump has called off plans to stream the Fort Hood attacker's execution by firing squad.

As criticism over the public display has mounted, Trump said on Thursday that "many very good and well meaning people would rather not watch him die."

Previously, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth had announced that the public would be able to watch the firing squad execution of former US army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan. Trump had initially approved of the livestream, while Vice-President JD Vance expressed doubt about its occurrence.

Hasan fatally shot 13 unarmed US soldiers at a military base in Texas in 2009, injuring another 32. His execution by firing squad would be the first military execution in over 60 years.
