Trump says Burnham 'getting it done' after Jackdaw decision

Trump praises Burnham's Jackdaw decision

BBC News reports that US President Donald Trump has commended UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham's decision to approve production from the North Sea's Jackdaw gas field.

Trump stated, "The other prime minister, the previous man, Starmer. He's a very nice man, but he never got it done, and this one is getting it." He further expressed that the decision would "make the UK a very rich country."

The Jackdaw platform, located 150 miles (241km) east of Aberdeen, is operated by a joint venture between Shell and Equinor. Ministers anticipate that gas production could begin by the end of the month, benefiting millions of homes.

Despite environmental campaigners' concerns about climate change and energy security, Trump seemed to confuse oil and gas, stating, "They're opening up the North Sea oil. I've been after them to do that for two years."

In a discussion with Burnham, the two leaders agreed on the positive economic impact of the Jackdaw decision. Burnham acknowledged the need to balance climate obligations with the decision.

Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh confirmed that gas from Jackdaw would be available for homes and businesses this month, but it would not lower energy bills this winter.
