Meteorological summer is over, schools are back, and so is the UK's unsettled weather. After a heat spike on Sunday, with temperatures reaching nearly 29°C (84°F) in south-east England, low pressure systems will continue to bring wet and windy conditions, especially to the north of the UK at the beginning of the week.
What to Expect This Week
- Monday: A weather front moving down from the north-west will bring cloud, showers, and cooler, fresher air. Temperatures will peak at 25°C in south-east England. Northern Ireland and Scotland will see heavier rain and strong, gusty winds, with temperatures around 17°C.
- Tuesday: Northern parts of the UK will be particularly windy, with gusts of 50-60mph possible in northern and western Scotland. There could be disruption in the central lowlands. Further south, England and Wales will see lingering rain in the southeast before clearing.
- Wednesday & Thursday: A more settled picture with rising pressure. Wednesday will be windy along the east coast, but otherwise dry. Showers will return to western parts of the UK on Thursday and move into eastern areas on Friday.
- Temperatures: Midweek temperatures will be near the seasonal average, with the highest in the south-east reaching around 22°C.
